When I first heard Townsville from Lily, I love this name right away, after searching on Google maps, I found that it’s near the sea, and it should be a nice and warmer city in the northeast of Australia, in order to get a job soon, I went to Ayr firstly, however I know, I would find a chance to go there someday.
When I decided to give up working on the farm in Ayr, I was thinking about where to go next, Townsville or Airlie Beach. Because Ayr is located between the two, Townsville is the nearest city, Airlie Beach is the nearest small town, but popular tourist place. At that time (at the end of June)winter was coming soon, it could be not easy to find a job in a small tourist town, and it’s true, others who left earlier than me, they went to Airlie Beach and found out that’s really hard to get a job there. So I took Premier bus (cheaper than Greyhound) from Ayr to Townsville on 8th June 2019.
One year in Australia, I have been to 8 places, Townsville should be the most colorful one for my experiences here. I don’t know what this city is like in other’s eye, but there is a Youth Hostel, a street, a mountain, a park near beach, a casino, and an island in my eyes. Civic Guest House
Flinders Street and around
Flinders Street is very popular in Townsville, there are a lot of shops on it. It’s first stop for many backpackers to walk in and find job.
Street Market
Townsville has a street market every Sunday morning, where you can see vegetables and fruits, clothes, handicrafts, tableware, flowers and plants … if you want to find some difference compare to Chinese market, it should be music! That is also the main reason why I go to this street market every Sunday, I want to enjoy the live music show.
Castle Hill
If you come to Townsville without going to Castle Hill, you will regret it. It is by the sea, where you can enjoy a very good view. Actually, when I was there, I often wanted to climb this mountain like a local to exercise and enjoy the beautiful scenery. But I only have been there twice until I left. If you have any ideas, just do it, and don’t let it go!
Strand Park
From Civic guest house to Strand Park about 2km. Locals always come here for a walk. It’s a long park by the sea. There are some restaurants and hotels on the other side of this park, so here is the second choice for finding a job. For me, the same, at the beginning, I came here to find a job. After sending my CV to every restaurant and hotel here, I often came here for fun and relaxation.
The Ville Resort-Casino
The Casino is by the sea with hotel and some restaurants together. When the first time I came to the back of this building, I was so surprised, amazing! Anyway, pictures always cannot show you the 100% real beauty!
So far, I have not introduced an island mentioned at the beginning of the article. That’s Magnetic Island, I want to tell you more about it in next story, because if someone comes to Townsville for tourism, they will definitely go to Magnetic Island!
